Dividing a wine bottle between several smaller bottles?
I live alone, and enjoy having a glass or two of wine with dinner. By extension, however, I am not capable of finishing an entire bottle of wine by myself (although the spirit is willing).
Would it be at all effective to divide a single bottle between several smaller bottles? I was thinking of purchasing a few small (~250ml) swing-top bottles and filling them as close to the brim as possible immediately after opening, so as to limit oxygen exposure. The bottles would be previously sanitized and kept in the cellar. Does this sound like a good idea, or should I just cut my losses? Or has anyone tried this before?
(Also, for what it's worth, I would not do this to a "superior" wine, which I usually save for company; this would only be done to bottles which, while still enjoyable, might not lose too much from a "secondary bottling".)
Thanks in advance, and à votre santé!
