Customer returns bottle saying it’s corked. It’s not. How to react?
I'm just starting out as a sommelier in a wine bar and am wondering how to react in cases where people like to show off and return bottles by the assumption of them being corked. I have 7+ years of experience in retail and have tried over 10.000 wines during this time. Not a lot of people returned corked bottles in the shop I worked in (they spill the wine out in the sink at home), but some of my friends tell me they have a hard time dealing with customers that are wrong and arrogant at the same time (no, the customer is not always right). Of course you're going to open another bottle if the previous one is truly faulted, but how do you deal with egoists that constantly want to prove themselves?
